RE-TRACING

The photographic project, born from the collaboration between Vito Sforza and Giuseppe Di Caro, uses the image as a symbolic language to explore the condition of individuals in contemporary society. In an era shaped by globalization and technological evolution, the identity of the “global citizen” appears fragmented and uncertain, while social networks encourage the creation of virtual, fluid identities that often replace real relationships and weaken our sense of historical continuity.

In this context, photography, now a central tool of communication and self-affirmation, risks becoming a superficial and narcissistic act. The two authors instead seek to restore its depth and meaning, reclaiming its emotional and interpretive power.

By portraying contemporary subjects dressed in historical garments, Sforza and Di Caro establish a dialogue between present and memory, between truth and fiction, highlighting the dual nature of the image in the digital age. Photography thus becomes a medium of reflection and collective memory, capable of reconnecting past, present, and future, and prompting a reflection on individual and social identity in the society of images.
